Abu Dhabi bank first to use new Etisalat mobile payments
Service is available for all Etisalat prepaid and postpaid customers free of charge
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has become the first UAE bank to launch interactive mobile financial services through Etisalat’s new unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) technology.
Etisalat’s USSD technology allows interactive communication between the bank and a customer using their mobile phone.
Unlike SMS banking, the USSD technology allows customers to conduct secure real time transactions through their mobile phones, and get information on a broad range of banking services offered by ADIB.
Available for all Etisalat prepaid and postpaid customers free of charge, the service is accessible through any mobile phone and does not require any special downloads or software installations, the company said in a statement.
Tirad Mahmoud, CEO of ADIB said: “It is like having an ADIB branch on your mobile phone. Almost all transactions that they would do at a branch or ATM can be completed and verified by customers from their mobile phone. We expect a large number of our customers to use this service.”
ADIB mobile banking allows customers to perform a number of banking functions, including transfers between a customer’s accounts or third party ADIB accounts, monthly card payments and payments of bills.
Abdulla Hashim, senior vice president, Business Solutions at Etisalat said: “Etisalat’s USSD browsing service will provide a very fast and robust platform for ADIB to enhance and introduce new customer-centric services.”
